Town Council chooses Mayor Elect for Historic Year

Kidwelly Town Council has unanimously elected Councillor Philip Thompson as its Mayor Elect for the municipal year 2018/ 2019.

Councillor Thompson will take up office on May 1st 2018 and there will be a civic service and ceremony in St. Mary’s Church Kidwelly on 12th May 2018.

This coming year will be a special one in the history of Kidwelly Mayors in that it marks the 400th year of Mayors in Kidwelly since Thomas Babington was made the first Mayor in 1618.

Speaking after the election Councillor Thompson said:

“It is both an honour and a privilege and not a little humbling to be elected to serve as the next Mayor of Kidwelly.  I look forward in my term of office as Mayor to meeting, working with and supporting our many community groups and organisations here in Kidwelly and Mynydd y Garreg, who’s work contributes so much to the spirit and wellbeing of our town.”

Phil added;

“We also have a Town Council that is actively working together on a number of exciting projects for the benefit of our community, including working towards making Kidwelly a dementia friendly town, reducing the use of single use plastics and promoting and supporting new and existing community events.”

Phil concluded: “We have a beautiful town and a community to be proud of and I will do my best to promote our town and represent our community in my time as Mayor”.

Mae'r flwyddyn sydd ar ddod yn garreg filltir arbennig i hanes Meiri Cydweli gan ei fod yn nodi pedwar can mlynedd o Feiri yng Nghydweli ers i Thomas Babington gael ei wneud yn Faer yn 1618.

Edrychaf ymlaen at fy nghyfnod fel Maer i gwrdd, gweithio a chefnogi ein grwpiau cymunedol a mudiadau niferus sydd yma yng Nghydweli a Mynydd y Garreg sy'n cyfrannu cymaint at ysbryd a lles y dref drwy eu gwaith.”

Ychwanegodd Phil;
“Mae gennym ni Gyngor Tref hefyd sy'n brysur iawn yn cydweithio ar nifer o brosiectau cyffrous er budd y gymuned, gan gynnwys gweithio tuag at gwneud Cydweli yn 'dref deall dementia', lleihau'r defnydd o blastig un-tro a hyrwyddo a chefnogi digwyddiadau cymunedol cyfredol a newydd.”

I gloi, dywedodd Phil: “Mae gennym dref brydferth a chymuned i fod yn falch ohoni a byddaf yn gwneud fy ngorau i hyrwyddo ein tref a chynrychioli'r gymuned yn ystod fy nghyfnod fel Maer”.
