Active Communities Funding Programme

The Active Communities Funding Programme aims to close the gap between those communities which experience the worst health in England, Scotland and Wales and the majority of the population.

The People's Health Trust is currently accepting applications from Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Cardiff, Caerphilly, Carmarthenshire, Newport, Pembrokeshire, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Torfaen and Vale of Glamorgan.

Local groups and organisations can apply for grants of between £5,000 and £40,000 for projects lasting up to two years.

The funding is intended for small, local projects aimed at people who experience greater social and economic disadvantage than those living in other areas. Projects should create stronger connections between people by helping them to meet up regularly.

The funding will support two types of projects:

  • · Neighbourhood-based projects (based in a small local area).
  • · Communities of interest (a group with shared identity or experiences).

There is particular interest in projects that are responding to the cost of living crisis and/or supporting mental health.

Applications will be considered from not-for-profit groups and organisations that have been constituted for at least three months, with an income of less than £350,000 a year, or an average of £350,000 or less over the last two years, and have less than six months annual running costs in savings (with no restrictions on the money).

There is a two-stage application process.

The deadline for stage one applications is 7 June 2023 (13:00).
