Kidwelly Mayor's Civic Service and Reception

On Saturday 12th May 2018, the sun shone on Kidwelly’s Civic Service and Reception for the new Mayor Councillor Philip Thompson and his consort Ms. Lisa Williams and Deputy Mayor Councillor Crisial Davies. The service was held in St. Mary’s Church and conducted by the Rev. Trevor Copeland. During the service local celebrity actress Marlene Griffiths gave an impassioned reading of Councillor Thompson’s favourite poem by W.B. Yeats ‘He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven.’ The service was followed by a procession around town lead by Crwbin Silver Band and involving the local scout troupes and representatives from other local groups.

Locals and visitors also had the opportunity to sample the wares on sale at the pop-up food festival in the Town Square; the first of many such events planned by the Town Council’s new tourism, commerce and marketing committee.

At the Civic reception, with excellent food prepared by Glanmorfa Care Home, Councillor Thompson spoke of his vision for the forthcoming year. His personal key aim is progressing Kidwelly Town Council’s commitment to delivering on working towards making Kidwelly and Mynydd-y-Garreg a dementia friendly community. Councillor Thompson has recently been actively involved as a dementia champion in training and working with local firms to create dementia friendly environments.

Councillor Thompson also praised the work of local community groups, which he described as “the lifeblood of our community” and the hard work of the Council staff who “deliver the Town Council’s services in our community.”

Speaking afterwards Councillor Phil Thompson said “I hope in my year of office to work with local community groups in Kidwelly and Mynydd-y-Garreg to support and promote their work.”

Town Clerk, Virginia O’Reilly added “We are looking forward as a Town Council to a positive year in which we hope to progress various initiatives, including reducing the use of single use plastics, a renewable energy partnership and a proposed arts festival”.

Gwasanaeth Dinesig a Derbyniad Maer Cydweli 

Ar ddydd Sadwrn, Mai'r 12fed 2018, bu'r haul yn disgleirio gyda dathliadau'r Gwasanaeth Dinesig a'r Derbyniad ar gyfer y Maer newydd, y Cynghorydd Philip Thompson a'i gymar Ms. Lisa Williams ynghyd â'r Dirprwy Faer, y Cynghorydd Crisial Davies. Cynhaliwyd y gwasanaeth yn Eglwys y Santes Fair dan ofal y Parchedig Trevor Copeland. Yn ystod y gwasanaeth rhoddodd Marlene Griffiths, yr actores enwog leol, ddarlleniad angerddol o hoff gerdd y Cynghorydd Thompson gan W.B. Yeats ‘He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven.’ Dilynwyd y gwasanaeth gan orymdaith o amgylch y dref dan arweiniad Seindorf Arian Crwbin gan gynnwys y Sgowtiaid a chynrychiolwyr eraill o fudiadau lleol.

Cafodd trigolion lleol ac ymwelwyr y cyfle hefyd i fwynhau'r nwyddau oedd ar werth yn yr ŵyl fwyd a gynhaliwyd ar Sgwâr y Dref, y cyntaf o nifer sydd i'w trefnu gan bwyllgor twristiaeth, masnach a marchnata newydd y Cyngor Tref.

Yn ystod y derbyniad, lle cafwyd gwledd arbennig dan ofal Cartref Glanmorfa, soniodd y Cynghorydd Thompson am ei weledigaeth ar gyfer ei flwyddyn wrth y llyw. Ei nod bersonol yw gwneud cynnydd yn ymrwymiad Cyngor Tref Cydweli ar gyflawni gwneud Cydweli a Mynydd-y-Garreg yn gymuned Dementia gyfeillgar. Yn ddiweddar, mae'r Cynghorydd Thompson wedi bod yn weithgar iawn fel pencampwr dementia wrth hyfforddi a gweithio gyda busnesau lleol i greu amgylcheddau sy'n ddementia gyfeillgar.

Canmolodd y Cynghorydd Thompson hefyd waith mudiadau lleol, a chyfeiriodd atynt fel “enaid ein cymuned” a gwaith caled staff y Cyngor sy'n “darparu gwasanaethau'r Cyngor Tref yn ein cymuned.”

Dywedodd y Cynghorydd Phil Thompson wedi'r digwyddiad “Gobeithiaf weithio'n agos gyda grwpiau a mudiadau lleol yng Nghydweli a Mynydd-y-Garreg yn ystod fy mlwyddyn fel Maer.”

Ychwanegodd Clerc y Dref, Virginia O’Reilly “Rydym yn edrych ymlaen fel Cyngor Tref ar gyfer blwyddyn gadarnhaol lle gobeithiwn fwrw ymlaen gyda nifer o fentrau, gan gynnwys lleihau ar y defnydd o blastig untro, partneriaeth ynni cynaliadwy a gŵyl gelfyddydol arfaethedig”.
